Time for a day out with the kids!

Mauritshuis with Maurits Mouse

Meet Maurits Mouse during the ‘Maurits Mouse and Rembrandt’ workshop! He will be happy to tell you everything about his exciting adventures with Rembrandt. During the workshop, you will see the real paintings of the world-famous artist. And you get the chance to create your own masterpiece! A visit to the Mauritshuis is definitely a truly enjoyable day out, full of fun activities.

Escher in the Palace

Escher’s well-known “impossible” works of art are on display at the Palace, such as “Ascending and Descending,” with rows of people walking up and down stairs in an infinite loop, but also lesser-known works from his Italian period. On the second floor of the Palace, you will find the interactive exhibition “Through Escher’s eyes”, where you can even become part of a true optical illusion! Kids will be amazed at how all these illusions can deceive their eyes!

Huis van het Boek (The House of the Book)

Discover the world of books at the Huis van het Boek in The Hague! Not only is this a museum where you get to admire a lot of books from past to present, but you can also learn all about how paper and books are actually made, and much more! At this fun museum (formerly called “Meermanno”), they also know exactly what kids want. Not just a museum to look at things and listen, but a place where there are things they can do! In addition to special exhibitions, the museum regular organises cool workshops and activities, especially during the summer months.

Haags Historisch Museum (The Hague’s Historic Museum)

On weekends and during the school holidays in The Hague, kids can roam around the Salon and the Discovery Attic and learn all about life around 1900, by experiencing it for themselves. For example, there is a car that needs to be cranked and a real telephone exchange.  You can also try your hand at creating art, watch videos and play games: try stilt-walking or play with a diabolo, make a chalk drawing or go rope skipping just like in the old days!
